Nick Gonko of Nicholas Gonko Photography and I had the opportunity to photograph the first ever WayHome Music Festival held at Burl’s Creek Events Grounds in Oro-Medonte, ON. There was so much anticipation for this event. Not only was this the first WayHome Festival, but it was the first big festival to be held at Burl’s Creek. I grew up in Barrie and spent a lot of time in Oro at Burl’s Creek and the Barrie Speedway. I was so excited to hear that a big festival was going to be held so close to home, but questioned how the event would go. After spending 3 beautiful days in the sun listening to incredible bands, meeting amazing new people, eating good food and being a part of an awesome crowd of people, I could not be more pumped for the next festival! Not only were the artists unbelievable, but so was the crowd. Being in the media pit was the best experience. My favourite performances of the weekend were July Talk (they absolutely killed it!), Modest Mouse, St.Vincent, Broods, Kendrick Lamar, and Sam Smith. The event was so well organized, and the grounds were kept clean and spacious. Hats off to all those involved. WayHome was such an unreal event and I cannot wait to see who will be part of WayHome next summer!
