There’s a feeling you get that stays with you forever when driving through the Rockies at sunrise. We had this feeling after capturing this incredible sunrise session at Moraine Lake in Alberta.
2:00 am our alarm clock goes off, we got a full 2 hours of sleep. We’re up early to leave for our sunrise session at Moraine lake driving from Calgary area. Most of the drive was in the pitch black as you can probably imagine leaving at 3:30am. But there’s something different driving though the mountains when it’s dark and beginning to lighten. As we approach the mountains from the east, we’re able to see these massive dark shadows that we’re driving towards. It’s an exciting and eerie feeling at the same time. We were of course full of excitement and caffeine as we blared music.
As we got closer to Moraine Lake the sun was getting closer to rising and we could actually begin see the epic mountains surrounding us. When we arrived there were quite a few people there to witness this amazing sunrise as well. Moraine is a big spot at sunrise. Our lovely couple Tristan and Glenda then arrived and we were off up the mountain. Tristan and Glenda are from the east coast Cape Breton where we’ll be photographing their wedding in August. How incredible that we’re able to capture their lov in two of Canada’s most beautiful areas on opposite sides of the country. We for one could not be more excited about the fact we get to shoot at Moraine Lake Alberta as well as Cape Breton!
Once we got to the top of the mountain we took in the beauty that is Moraine. The sun was nearly making its way up over the mountains and the water was as blue as ever. We began capturing photos and shot after shot is better than the next. Moraine Lake just pops off the screen in every shot, and even though it was 6:00 am the passion between Tristan and Glenda was heating up as well.
We made our way around Moraine Lake for another 1 and half as the sun finally rose over the Rocky Mountains. Capturing photos and catching up with these two, getting excited with the anticipation of their east coast wedding was one of the best mornings. As the sun came over the mountains it was surely a sight to see as we all sat back and enjoyed the sunrise. Even though it can be tough, waking up for sunset is always a good idea.
